What you need for a licence: documents to register, sit the exam and collect it
Updated: October 2026
You need documents at three points: when you register with a driving school, when you sit the exam and when you collect the licence. Always carry the originals.
To register with a driving school
- A valid ID card
- Medical certificate for a driving licence
For the exam
The driving school usually collects and submits these for you:
- Proof that you completed the theory lessons
- Medical certificate
- A copy of your ID card
- First aid certificate (Red Cross)
To collect the licence
Apply in person at a Document Issuing Centre (MIA):
- A valid ID card (or residence permit for foreign nationals)
- Medical certificate
- Proof of passing the exam
- Fee: €15 (urgent: +€50)
Applying online
Some licence services are also offered online on the driving licence portal (eKosova). For a first licence you must appear in person.
